  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring (gel-based for vibrant color)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup red velvet cake crumbs (from the cupcake centers)
  • 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 34 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 23 tbsp milk or heavy cream
  • A few drops of ivory or peach food coloring (adjust for a pale skin-tone effect)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Candy fangs or small dots of red plant-based gelatin (for puncture marks)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners.

  3. In another bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, salt, and combine with wet ingredients alternately with buttermilk.
  4. Spoon batter into prepared muffin tin; bake for 18-20 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool completely.
  5. Prepare filling by mixing red velvet cake crumbs with sweetened condensed milk and melted butter; add red food coloring as desired.
  6. Hollow out cooled cupcakes and fill them with the creamy mixture.
  7. Make buttercream frosting by beating softened butter with powdered sugar; add milk and vanilla extract until smooth. Color frosting as desired.
  8. Frost each cupcake and decorate with candy fangs and ‘blood’ syrup.
