- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp red food coloring (gel-based for vibrant color)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup red velvet cake crumbs (from the cupcake centers)
- 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1–2 tbsp red food coloring (for a vibrant, glossy red hue)
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3–4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 2–3 tbsp milk or heavy cream
- A few drops of ivory or peach food coloring (adjust for a pale skin-tone effect)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Candy fangs or small dots of red plant-based gelatin (for puncture marks)
- Red syrup or edible red gel (for ‘blood’ drips)
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners.
- Cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until fluffy. Mix in eggs, vanilla extract, and red food coloring.
- In another bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, salt, and combine with wet ingredients alternately with buttermilk.
- Spoon batter into prepared muffin tin; bake for 18-20 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool completely.
- Prepare filling by mixing red velvet cake crumbs with sweetened condensed milk and melted butter; add red food coloring as desired.
- Hollow out cooled cupcakes and fill them with the creamy mixture.
