  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • Optional: 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon vegetable shortening

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg yolk, vanilla, and salt; blend until smooth.
  4. Gradually mix in flour on low speed until combined.
  5. Transfer half the dough to a piping bag and pipe desired shapes onto an ungreased baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until edges are golden.
  7. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  8. For optional chocolate dip, melt chocolate chips with vegetable shortening and dip cooled cookies halfway.
